  REVIEW:

The name of the movie You, Me, and Dupree is, in our humble opinions, silly and somewhat annoying.  But, it’s probably more viable than the obvious first choice – Honeymoon Crashers!

Dupree (Owen Wilson) is the single best fiend that always manages to screw everything up.  Dupree is Carl’s (Matt Dillon) best man for his marriage to Molly (Kate Hudson).  After spending a week in Hawaii for the wedding, Dupree returns home to find that he’s lost his job and apartment while he was gone.  With nowhere to go, Carl lets him move in with him and his new wife.  Molly begins to think the idea of Dupree living with them (supposedly temporarily) is not a good idea when she finds him sleeping naked on the couch and when she finds out he started their house on fire.  Feeling sorry for Dupree and his pathetic life, she lets him stay anyway.  Carl works for Molly’s father, who is becoming very demanding of Carl at work.  So much so that Carl spends very little time at home.  This causes Dupree and Molly to become friends.  Carl, on the other hand, thinks that Molly and Dupree are having an affair and comes completely unglued and nearly destroys his marriage.  Now, Dupree is forced to put aside his normal selfish tendencies, and dig deep inside himself to find the strength and the skills he needs to get Carl and Molly back together again.

You, Me, and Dupree is a slow starter.  For the first half of the movie, the acting seems awkward and the situations forced.  There are definitely a few funny moments, but it’s mostly the typical couples comedy stuff that's been done ad nauseam.  However, in the latter half of the movie, Owen Wilson's Dupree appears less the party animal creating tension between the newlyweds with his bachelor habits, and more the likable screw-up who is trying to find meaning in his life.  By the movie’s climax, the comedy is fresh and hilarious, the chemistry is strong, and the story delightful and entertaining.  So, if you can endure the first hour, you’ll enjoy the second.

We rate You, Me and Dupree YELLOW.  Caution – this one is just okay.
